First Nations Community Panels are a community-led public health governance model developed through First Nations-led research by Dr Kristy Crooks and now being implemented through FIRST to strengthen pandemic preparedness.
The Panels bring together diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to deliberate on current and emerging public health threats and provide recommendations directly to governments and decision-makers.
The current project focuses on avian influenza (bird flu) preparedness and response, supporting culturally informed planning while demonstrating how the approach can be adapted to future infectious disease threats and other public health emergencies.
