Doherty Institute Director and APPRISE investigator, Professor Sharon Lewin AO, has been appointed a member of the Victorian COVID Advisory Group (VCAG).
The VCAG has been formed to provide advice to Victorian Treasurer, The Hon Tim Pallas MP, on safely easing COVID-19 restrictions for various industries.
Chaired by businessman, Paul Little, the group consists of selected leaders from across various industries, including banking and finance, construction, health, infrastructure, logistics, manufacturing and retail, who will provide expertise and resources to help inform government policy.
A world-leading infectious diseases expert, University of Melbourne Professor Lewin is also Chief Investigator of the Australian Partnership for Preparedness Research on Infectious Diseases Emergencies (APPRISE) and will draw from Australia’s leading experts in clinical, laboratory and public health research to advise on the key components required in relation to health, for easing COVID-19 restrictions.
Professor Lewin said she was very pleased to be part of this essential group to assist with guiding Victoria towards ‘COVID normal’.
“Working within the VCAG framework, the group will have a critical role in supporting government policy to safely ease business restrictions in order to address the current and future economic issues in Victoria as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
