Exploring access to antivirals
Description
Project team
Project aims
This project includes three phases to provide a nuanced explanation of barriers and enablers to optimising antiviral access to those most at risk of COVID-related hospitalisation and death. Th project also aims to identify what matters most to people when making decisions about COVID-19 therapies.
Project key research phases
Interviews with people discharged from hospital following COVID-19 who were eligible for but did not access antiviral therapies
Potential interview participants will be identified by surveillance nurses at tertiary hospitals in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and WA.
Participants will be purposively selected to maximise diversity – participants who do not speak English will be able to be supported by a family member acting as an interpreter.
Interviews with people from First Nations communities and from non-English speaking backgrounds
To ensure we capture data relevant to First Nations communities and people from non-English speaking backgrounds, a further set of interviews will be undertaken with workers from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and multicultural health from workers from across Australia.
Survey of people hospitalised for COVID who did and did not access antivirals
Based on the analysis of the interviews, a survey will be designed and conducted examining the knowledge, attitudes and practices of people hospitalised for COVID who did and did not access antivirals. Survey participants will be recruited from hospitals across Australia.
