Professor Sharon Lewin inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll for Women

Since 2001, the Victorian Honour Roll of Women acknowledges and celebrates the achievements of women in Victoria, where outstanding women leaders receive the recognition they deserve for their contributions.

Professor Sharon Lewin, APPRISE researcher and Director of the Doherty Institute, was nominated as a ‘Change Agent’ – a woman who has made an enduring commitment that has brought about significant and lasting change.

She is internationally renowned in her field as an HIV clinician and researcher, particularly for her extraordinary body of work in the search for an HIV cure.

Professor Lewin is also celebrated for her unwavering support, advocacy and inclusiveness of people living with HIV, along with her leadership and support for women and teams in science.

Doherty Institute Patron and namesake, Laureate Professor Peter Doherty said it’s been a real pleasure to work with Professor Lewin since the Institute was established in 2014.

“The fact that the atmosphere (at the Institute) is highly interactive and universally positive is a real tribute to Sharon’s leadership,” Professor Doherty said.

“Sharon is a great networker, and I long admired and respected her work as a clinician scientist and public advocate in the complex field of HIV research. Our Institute goes from strength to strength under Sharon’s leadership.”

Professor Lewin joins distinguished company on the Victorian Honour Roll in the field of health and medical research and medicine, including Royal Melbourne Hospital CEO, Professor Christine Kilpatrick, eminent molecular biologist,  Professor Suzanne Cory and Nobel Prize recipient Professor Elizabeth Blackburn.
